Dear #name#,

Welcome to the January edition of the STT newsletter.  Hope all are well in STT land!

Research:

There are many new articles on the STT website.  If you want the latest, simply jump on the search articles section and type in ‘2007’ or ‘2008’ and this will bring up  the latest uploaded files.  Otherwise have a look on the home page for highlight abstracts.  Here are a few to wet the appetite.

David Simons is still producing papers and opinions on Trigger Points.  Check this out for his latest on their etiology.

Want to read a landmark study?  Check this out for our industry.  Finally a means to measure taught bands!  Well, if you have a radiology degree and about $500,000 to buy a machine.

Have you been prescribing eccentric exercises to your clientele?  You may want to read this abstract which throws the cat among the pigeons.  This certainly raises some questions regarding prehabilitation versus rehabilitation of athletes with tendon injuries.

More and more studies are showing that trigger points in and around the face and neck are causing or contributing to tension type headaches.  Here is another one to throw on the pile.  Surely the amount of evidence that is being compiled on this topic should be reviewed, summarised and used as promotional material for our skill set.  Remember, we are the most skilled at alleviating trigger points.  Get it done now before another industry sweeps it away.

News:

The STT eMag now goes to over 3000 industry members, including a large UK audience.  For those wanting to contribute, subscribe, advertise, please contact admin@softtissuetherapy.com.au

The eMag focus’s on sport, research and musculoskeletal pain.  The first edition if free and is available for download from the stt website now in the STT eMag icon on the home page.

Poll:

The poll this month overwhelmingly voted for modalities such as Kahuna, Thai and Lomi Lomi massage, not to be a part of our membership.  90% wanted a STT only membership.  Something for the associations to consider.

Forum:

Thanks for those who have replied to the website survey.  All comments are considered, not all will be acted upon!  We are working on more content with photos on assessment and technique (many wanted this), and an updated calendar of events (please send us your info if you have a workshop).  For those that want certain sections of the forum shut down, we’re sorry, they will remain.  There were some very adamant people, very emotional people wanting it shut down, and then some just as emotional people wanting it to stay.  While the hits on this section remain as high as they are, obviously people want to read it and post to it.  Freedom of speech will prevail, but please, watch the language and keep defamatory remarks to yourself.

Word Play:

Sports Massage.  Did you read the latest article in the STT eMag on Sports Massage?  What are your thoughts?  Does it actually exist or are there just a bunch of people rubbing sporting backsides and calling it a fancy name?  Voice your opinion!

Hope all is well in the soft tissue world.

Kind Regards,
Administrator
